Acrobatics – West of Scotland Championships

City of Glasgow Acrobatics had a very successful weekend at the West of Scotland Championships. This is a charity event with all proceeds going to Children First (SSPCC) with eight different cubs across Scotland participating.

Iain McLean and Marcus Hunter won Gold in the Grade 1 Pairs category. This was the boys first time competing and they performed excellently to score a well earned 25.85.

Josh McKay and Ella Loffler won silver in the same category. This was also their first time competing and they performed very well to also score highly with 25.65.

Jaxon McCracken and Orianna Smith also competed in the Grade 1 Pairs category. The girls performed recently at the Scottish Championships and showed the judges and audience a strong improvement in their performance.

These are new partnerships for the City of Glasgow and we hope they continue the medal success at future competitions.

Congratulations to all the gymnasts who took part.

Acro British Champioships 2012

The City of Glasgow had a very successful British Championships at Stoke-on-Trent bringing back a total of six bronze medals. Our 11-16 Mens Pair, Craig Downie and Mitchell Smith performed very well over the two days encompassing three routines to earn a bronze medal. This is the boys sixth competition of the year, which has ranged from BG Team Selection Events for World Championship to representing Scotland at the Celtic Cup, and again they showed their growing skill and ability.

Our 11-16 Mens Group, Fraser Shepard, James Thomson, Colin Drysdale and Greg Roberston, performed together for the first time at the Championships and performed excellently to earn a bronze medal against some of the top clubs in England.

Our Junior FIG Mixed Pair, Craig Gibson and Sophie Terris performed two routines excellently on the Saturday. Over the past year they have transitioned to the Junior FIG category and this was their first British Championships at this more demanding level and they finished in fourth place.
